Obituary
Dorothy Frances Boyne Goldberg, 89, of Fair Lawn, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on June 18. Born in Manhattan, she lived in Fair Lawn for over 60 years.
She is survived by her sisters Margaret Finnegan of Summerfield, NC and Theresa Avlon of Toms River, NJ. She is mourned by her son Thom (Zoe Kopp) Namaya of Brattleboro, VT, her daughter Claire (Frank) Giancola of Fair Lawn, and her daughter Julie (Martin Springer) Goldberg of Chestnut Ridge, NY. She was the proud grandmother of Jaida (Dan) Fishback of Bargersville, IN, Kenneth (Allison) Giancola of Belford, NJ, Jaclyn (Nicholas) Buldo of Paramus, NJ, and Grace and Isaac Springer-Goldberg of Chestnut Ridge, NY-- and the even prouder great-grandmother of Hudson and Hayes Giancola.
She was predeceased by her brother Gerald, her husband Arnold, and her son Dennis.
A funeral Mass was held privately at St. Catharine Church in Glen Rock, NJ, where she was a faithful parishioner for over 60 years.
Dorothy was also a regular at the Fair Lawn Senior Center, where she volunteered with the Grandma’s Club and enjoyed exercise classes, line dancing, game shows, and meeting new people.
Married in 1952, Dorothy and Arnold moved to Spain a few years later with their young sons, Dennis and Thomas. They brought home a one-of-a-kind souvenir--their daughter Claire. They soon settled on Elmary Place in Fair Lawn, where they raised their family, including Julie, the last addition to their bustling household. They hosted many memorable holidays and celebrations for their large extended family.
Upon Arnold’s retirement, they enjoyed traveling to the UK, Ireland, Canada, and all over the US, including the American West.
Dorothy loved traveling, reading, helping to care for her grandchildren, and making her friends and family laugh.
We will forever miss her spunk, humor, generosity, and kindness.
