Gary C. Morgan Obituary

Gary C. Morgan

West Winfield

Gary C. Morgan, 80, of West Winfield, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2024 at Bassett Healthcare with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Oneida, NY, on November 18, 1943, the eldest son of the late Sewell and Ada (Dillman) Morgan. A graduate of West Winfield High School, Gary continued his education at MVCC, earning an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering before moving to New York City to further hone his skills at the RCA Institute where he taught broadcast executives to run cameras and create a TV production in the event of a strike. He subsequently became a pioneer radio announcer at WUFM, the first FM radio station to broadcast out of Utica. On May 11, 1968, he was united in marriage at St. Agnes Church, Utica, with Mary Ellen Catillaz, with whom he recently celebrated a blessed 56 years of love and devotion. Gary was a telephone systems engineer, technician, and Vice President of Gaffney Communications. Following his later association with Ronco Communications, he retired in 2016. Gary was a devoted member of the community, member of the Federated Church of West Winfield, the West Winfield Rotary Club, and was heavily involved as a board member of Mount Markham Schools, where he is honored in the Mount Markham Hall of Fame.

Gary truly loved his job and brought his genius home with him. He enjoyed tinkering with phones, electronics and computers. Gary turned his home into a “Smart Home” long before it had become a household term, earning the nickname “Grandpa Gadget”.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Ellen, West Winfield; daughter, Kimberly (Gary) Busch, Hannawa Falls, NY; son, Jeffrey Morgan, Utica; grandchildren Matthew Morgan and Morgan and Michael Busch; sister Mary Anne (Joseph) Biggs; brothers Ross (Diane) Morgan and Brian (Sherry) Morgan and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gary’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to the doctors and staff of Bassett Healthcare for their wonderful care and compassion.

In keeping with Gary’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be at the convenience of the family in the summer at a day and time to be announced. Interment will be in Unadilla Forks Cemetery. Arrangements are with Dimbleby Funeral Homes, Inc., 365 West Main St., West Winfield.

Remembrances in Gary’s name may be made to the West Winfield or Unadilla Forks Fire and Rescue Squad and the Federated Church of West Winfield.
