Jon Nickey German, 86, of La Porte, passed away peacefully at 12:25 p.m., Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Northwest Health La Porte, with his wife and five children at his side.
He was born on December 15, 1937, in Plymouth, IN, to John Nick and Freda M. (Stansbury) German.
On April 27, 1958, in Chandler, Arizona, he married Constance Hiatt, who survives.
Jon lived most of his childhood at Koontz Lake. He graduated from Grovetown, High School in 1956 and then volunteered to join the United States Air Force where he began basic training in Amarillo, Texas. Jon was a part of 4530 Periodic Maintenance Squadron and later transferred to Williams Air Force Base in Arizona. It was there that he met the love of his life, his wife, Constance “Connie”. Jon was also an avid scout leader for troop 484 in Chandler, AZ and was very active in church where he was a council member for many years. He loved his family so much and loved family gatherings and holidays. Jon was greatly loved and will be truly missed.
Also surviving are his five children, Jeffery German, Kristi (Michael) Harmon, Jon-Cory (Gayl) German, Joseph German and Jason (Christina) German; grandchildren, Jesse (Will Mullane) German, Tiffany (Justin) Eddinger, Jennie (Jake) Gehm, Max (Abi Marquiss) Harmon; Jessica (Paul) Scheffler, Jason Robert (Samantha Bell) German, Halina (Jared) Pickett; Jon Nicholas (Miranda) German, Samantha German, Kiersten (Justin Spicer) German, Gabrielle German, Whitney (Alex Boos) Zila, and Grant (Makena Jones) Zila; plus six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; and his beloved black lab, Bo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Dale Hiatt and Vint Easter; and sister-in-law, Rena Stephens.
Cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. EST, Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plymouth, 6835 Union Rd, Plymouth, IN 46563, with Pastor Scott Drake officiating.
