It is with heavy hearts that the family of Barbara Lynn Smith announce her passing which occurred on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. Born on July 18, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Walter & Phyllis (McAlpine) Thorne.

Barb was known for her infectious zest for life and her love of people, which made her never shy away from a conversation with anyone. Her home was always filled with the beauty of blooming orchids, a testament to her passion for these delicate flowers.

Barb inherited a deep love for nature and wildlife from her Dad, and her deck was never empty of her cherished birds. She found immense joy in spending time with her grandchildren, and her happiest moments were those shared with them.

A joyful fixture at the Kingston Farmer's Market, Barb will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her unwavering faith in her Lord Jesus Christ guided her throughout her life, whether she was following the call overseas or serving at her local church, Kingston Foursquare.

Barb's legacy of love, faith, and joy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be remembered fondly and missed dearly.

Barb is survived by her loving husband of 54 years Paul G. Smith; her children: Garvin Smith (Laura) of Kingston, NB, Jonathan Smith (Terri-Ann Richards) of Hampton, NB, Tamara Hanley (Peter) of Whitby, ON; grandchildren: Remy Smith, Stella Hanley, Nathaniel Hanley & Corwin Smith; brother Wayne Thorne of Saint John, NB; sisters Leisa Dube (JP) of Saint John, NB and Linda Jenkins (Daniel) of Kingston, NB; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, where visitation will be held on Friday, September 27th, 2024 from 4 to 7PM. The funeral service will take place at 11:00AM on Saturday, Sept 28th from Reid’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Grey’s Mills Cemetery, Kingston, NB.
