Jimmy was a long-time head Baseball Coach at Hattiesburg High School , where he won State Championships in 1980 and 1984. He served as President of the USM Baseball Dug-Out Club for many years. He was selected to Hattiesburg Hall of Fame in 2023.

Jimmy devoted his life to his work. He was a life-long resident of Hattiesburg, MS. He was a teacher, coach, and administrator at Hattiesburg High School. Jimmy also worked as Director of cheerleading camps and tryouts around the country.

Even with is many achievements, he was most proud of his strong Christian faith. He was very successful professionally, having coached state champions in baseball and cheerleading. He was selected as “vice-principal of the year” for Mississippi, as well as Head coach of the South team in the Olympic Festival held in Los Angeles, California. For him, one of his greatest honors was having the baseball field at Smokie Harrington Park named in his honor. His impact on his students was heart-warming. He maintained close relationships with many of them. Among his important mentors were his parents, Jack and Betty Pierce, his principal, Coach Reese Snell, Coach J. Larry Ladner, Coach Howard Moore, and Mr. S.F. Carlisle. He was so proud of his many players and cheerleaders who went on to have outstanding careers and loving families.

One of his most enjoyable pastimes was to attend musicals, both on Broadway and around the country. He attended more than fifty musicals and plays. Jimmy was fortunate to have seen many professional games in stadiums around the country. His mountain get-a-way in North Carolina was a wonderful retreat for his family and friends. He loved traveling, having visited 49 of the 50 states.

One of is recent quotes was, “My Lord and Savior has given me the best life I could have ever thought possible”. He was a lover of boxer bulldogs, one being L.T. Pierce, his best friend for the last 12 years. What a life, thanks to God's blessings.

Jimmy is survived by his sister, Brenda P. Kruse, of Semmes, AL, who he called “the best sister on could ever have”; his nephew, Dr. James Kruse and his wife, Heather of Mobile, AL; his great-nephew and niece, Ayden and Kelsie Kruse, who he absolutely adored, seven fantastic God-children, and one great-God-daughter.
