John Burke Obituary

John Burke, age 63, a resident of Naperville, IL, formerly of Homewood and Lockport, IL, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Endeavor Health Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born on March 9, 1962, in Evergreen Park, IL.


Loving brother of Janet (Jeff) Mark of Naperville, dear uncle of Kathryn (Dan Meyer) Mark and Karen (Jon Murphy) Mark, and great-uncle of Claire, Conor, Maeve, and Callum John. Cherished boyfriend of Sheryl Caudle of Lockport, IL. Fond friend of many.


Preceded in death by his parents, Philbin "Phil" and Mary (nee Kane) Burke, and his beloved, aunt Eleanor Kane.


John grew up in Homewood, IL and was educated at Libra School in Riverdale, IL and Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, IA. He worked at Community Enterprises in Homewood. He attended Threshold in Chicago, and Trinity Services in Joliet for 20 years. He was known as "The Colonel" at his Lockport residence, and as "Honey Bear" to his sweetie Sheryl. He had extensive knowledge of early TV and radio programming. He enjoyed traveling across the US and to Canada and Ireland. He closely followed current events. "Uncle John" doted on his great-nieces and nephews, reading to and feeding them. He was central to the Mark family life events and celebrations.


A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2025, 1:00-3:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, IL 60540.


A celebration of John's life will follow at 3:00 PM, Sunday, in the funeral home.
