Reverend Samuel James “Jim” Buchholz passed away at his home in Southern Pines, NC on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
Jim was born in Southern Pines on January 8, 1957 to Helen and John Buchholz, Sr.
He leaves behind many family and friends who loved him dearly, including his seven siblings and their spouses, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews, many of whom were married or baptized by “Father Uncle Jimmy”.
A graduate of Pinecrest High School, Jim was a State High School wrestling champion his junior year. In addition to being a card shark, Jim brought such joy to life. His enormous capacity to love and serve others led him to ministry. Jim was ordained to the priesthood on June 2, 2001, and faithfully served Catholic parishes and schools throughout eastern North Carolina including Annunciation (Havelock), St. Peter (Greenville), Holy Family (Elizabeth City), St Katharine Drexel (Maple), St. Mark (Wilmington) and Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Rocky Mount).
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 18 from 6-9pm at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Southern Pines, and a funeral mass will be held Friday, September 19 at 2pm at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church followed by a grave-side burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
